Latitude at River Landing for International Students

A Diverse Destination in America’s Heartland

The University of Iowa is home to 4,300 international students from around the globe, making Iowa City and Coralville diverse destinations in America’s heartland. Whether it’s your first time in the United States, or you’ve been enrolled in the University of Iowa for multiple years, we’ve put together a list of resources to help the international students that live at our apartments in Iowa River Landing. Take a look below to learn how to do and where to go for some of the things that international students frequently need.

Getting to Latitude at River Landing from the Airport

Usually, international students fly into the Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids. The Airport Shuttle Service has a desk at the airport where staff can assist you in getting a ride to Coralville. This service will take you directly to our front doors. All you need to tell them is that you’d like to go to the southeast corner of 1st and 7th Street in Coralville, IA.

Getting to Class From Latitude

Here at Latitude at River Landing, we provide our residents with a complimentary shuttle between campus and our community! Several trips are made throughout the day, so you'll get door-to-door service both to and from class!

US Money

Eastern Iowa Airport is unfortunately not an international airport and does not have currency exchange options. The best thing you can do to get US Money is to visit a currency exchange during your layover at whatever American airport into which you fly.

US Bank Accounts

You’ll want to choose a bank that can accommodate you internationally. Usually, bigger bank options are great for this. We recommend the Wells Fargo not too far from Iowa River Landing.

Home Goods

Your apartment at Latitude will come complete with furniture, appliances, and a living room television. For the smaller items for your home, you may want to consider heading over to Coral Ridge Mall where you’ll find a Target that will have everything you’ll need for your new home!

US Cell Phones

The most important things to consider when shopping for a US Cell Phone as an international student are the length of your contract, whether you are allowed a certain number of minutes, and how companies charge for calls. Make sure to ask these questions before signing up for anything. Also, companies generally will ask you for proof of address before signing a contract, so consider sending yourself a piece of mail before you move so that you have proof that you live at Latitude! Some of our recommended cellular retailers are:

Trader Joe’s is a grocery store that you can walk to from our apartments in Iowa River Landing.

Health Care

There is a University of Iowa Healthcare hospital just up the road from Latitude at River Landing. There is a clinic where you can schedule appointments as well as emergency room services available here.
